TS 1.11 - Pugliese & Cobos 1953-54

Juan Carlos Cobos successfully auditioned and became Pugliese’s principal vocalist in early 1953, two years after Jorge Vidal had left, joining the already established Alberto Morán. Stylistically, Cobos can be regarded as the successor to Vidal. While he lacked Vidal’s tightly charged dramatic intensity, he compensated with a more nuanced palette.
He made only six solo recordings, plus one duet with Morán. Yet among them are enduring masterpieces such as Te Aconsejo Que Me Olvides, Milonguera, and Es Preciso Que Te Vayas.
With this mini release, TS 1.11, we hope to present these precious recordings Juan Carlos Cobos left behind in the finest form possible, allowing listeners to rediscover a vocalist who deserves far greater recognition.
The surviving sources for Cobos’s recordings are, fortunately, in reasonably good condition—surprisingly better than many recordings made by Alberto Morán during the same period. Existing CD transfers failed to reveal their true potential, leaving much of their artistic beauty hidden beneath technical limitations.
During the restoration process, although none of the recordings suffered from major defects, each one presented its own collection of subtle issues involving speed stability and tonal balance across frequencies. As a result, the restoration demanded just as much care and attention.
TS 1.11 is the result of this work. We hope these new restorations will allow listeners to fully appreciate the distinctive artistry and understated elegance of Juan Carlos Cobos.
